Corrective eyewear can help you see better, but you may not want to rely on glasses or contact lenses forever. If you wish to rely less on your lenses, laser eye surgery can help.
Laser eye surgery reduces or eliminates your need for corrective lenses. We don’t complete surgeries at Eyes Etc. Optical, but we can assist you throughout the surgical process. Dr. Jeannine Fowler and the team can help determine your eligibility for surgery and support your healing process.
Visit Eyes Etc. Optical in Fort Myers if you’re interested in laser eye surgery, and we can see if this procedure is right for your needs.
Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is a laser eye surgery for correcting refractive errors like myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. LASIK is ideal for someone who wants to rely less on their glasses or contact lenses. This surgery can help improve your vision in approximately 30 minutes.
The LASIK procedure involves cutting a flap away from the front of the eye. Your surgeon then uses a programmed laser to reshape the cornea, removing precise amounts of corneal tissue.
After reshaping your cornea, your surgeon returns the flap to its original position, where it heals.
While LASIK can be beneficial, it isn’t for everybody. We’ll determine your eligibility for this surgery during your consultation. Overall, an ideal candidate for LASIK meets the following criteria:
18 years of age or older
A low enough prescription
Good overall health
Healthy eyes
Ideally sized pupils
Stable vision for at least 12 months
Sufficient corneal thickness
Dr. Jeannine Fowler and the team handles pre- and postoperative care during your surgery process. We will determine your eligibility for LASIK and provide you with instructions on how to prepare. Our referral will send you to a trusted and experienced surgeon.
After your surgery, we can support you as you heal. We’ll book follow-up appointments during this healing process and help identify any complications if they arise. We can explain our pre- and postoperative care during your initial consultation.
